What is HuskyTHON?
Founded in 1998, HuskyTHON is an 18 hour dance-marathon that raises money on behalf of the Children's Medical Center in Hartford. HuskyTHON is comprised of an 18 member board of directors and almost 70 volunteers. Over the past 8 years, HuskyTHON has provided university students and faculty at UConn the opportunity to give back to the local communities. Currently over 80 schools across the nation host dance marathons across the nation raising more than $12 million dollars a year benefiting local hospitals.
What is a dancer?
Dancers are what make HuskyTHON a successful event. A dancer is any person who has committed to attend the dance marathon for the full 18 hours beginning February 23 at 6 p.m. and ending February 24 at 12 p.m. Teams will assign dancer representatives who will then be responsible for communicating information to their team about upcoming events.
How much is it to be a dancer?
There is only one donation of $10 to register. Dancers are required to fundraise an additional amount. The amounts vary based on when a dancer registers (Fall registration $100, Spring Registration $110, Late registration $120).
How do I fundraise?
The viral fundraising program provided allows for dancers to send personalized e-mails to family members and friends for online donations. There are fundraising events scheduled throughout the year to help dancers meet reach their fundraising goals. If you need assistance with fundraising, please contact Anita Szablowski at fundraising@huskython.com for more information.
What is Morale?
Morale is responsible for keeping dancers energetic and entertained throughout the night. Your morale captains teach pieces of a communal dance, called the Morale Dance every hour to give all the dancers a chance to dance together. If you would like to get involved contact Kristen Morello at morale@huskython.com
Do I have to be in an organization to participate?
No, anyone can participate in the dance marathon.
How does my team sponsor a family, how can a family get sponsored?
Each team is expected to have a minimum of 5 registered dancers. When $500 (5 registered dancers meet their total) has been raised, a team has the option to sponsor a family. Our Family Relations Director Danielle Decagna is available if there are any questions FR@huskython.com.
How does my team get points, what does a team win?
Teams are given points based on fundraising totals (70%) and participation (30%). Each dollar is equivalent to one point. Participation is based on the percentage of members in your organization that attend all HuskyTHON events such as Dancer Week, various fundraising events, and the dance marathon. Note that teams are divided into 5 different categories and will be awarded prizes in each category. Teams lose points if dancers fail to raise their total fundraising amount.
What should I expect at the event, what are the benefits?
Remember that HuskyTHON is for the kids! You really are having the "Chance of a Lifetime, to Give a Lifetime of Chances." Our Board has worked hard all year to make sure our dancers will be kept busy and have fun for the full 18 hours. Throughout the event, dancers will be provided with plenty of food, entertainment, and fun! By participating in the event, you are helping the children of Connecticut!
